Our Story - Family Owned and Operated Dispensary

Sharron Sample, a native Marylander, enjoyed a long and rewarding career with NASA, retiring in March 2008, from the position of Chief Information Officer, Earth Science. The most rewarding years of her career were spent innovating and developing Information Technology in support of the Earth and Space Science programs, including the NASA Science web presence. Sharron enjoyed retirement, giving time to her church as a council member, and led several quilt groups who support combat veterans and children whose parents are deployed. Travel, swimming, and socializing with friends also took up much of her time.

In 2014, she became aware of the plan to legalize cannabis in Maryland. The current science about helping patients with cannabis was the deciding factor that brought her out of retirement to pursue a new business. She was particularly moved by the ability to stop or greatly reduce children’s seizures with a form of cannabis that has no psychotropic element.

Her son, Robert Sample, and nephew, Steve Mariast, were instrumental in researching and educating Sharron about the medical benefits. Together they have pursued licenses to grow, process, and dispense cannabis, being a recipient at this time of a dispensary license. Sharron is the President and CEO of Maryland Earthworks, and own Dispensary Works.
Sharron currently resides in Bowie, Maryland, with her canine American Bulldog friend, Brando. She looks forward to house hunting in Charles County soon after opening the dispensary.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Any Maryland resident who has a qualifying medical condition and a physician who recommends medical marijuana as a treatment option may apply for a cannabis card. You will need to submit proof of residency and a physician’s certification with your application.

In Maryland, the following conditions qualify for medical marijuana certification:

  1. Cachexia
  2. Anorexia
  3. Glaucoma
  4. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  5. Severe nausea
  6. Seizures
  7. Conditions that require hospice or palliative care
  8. Severe or chronic pain
  9. Severe or persistent muscle spasms

If you have a condition that is not on this list but you believe may benefit from medical marijuana treatment, you do have options available to you.

The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) allows certifications for chronic medical conditions that are severe, do not respond to other treatments, and whose symptoms can be relieved by medical marijuana use. Speak to a Maryland physician to discuss your options.

Maryland only allows physicians registered with the MMCC to certify patients for medical marijuana use. You must establish a bona fide provider-patient relationship with your doctor, which essentially means the doctor has reviewed your medical records, evaluated you in-person, maintains your medical records, and expects to monitor and follow-up with you in the future.

We can connect you with a properly licensed professional who can evaluate your qualifying condition, submit your certification through the MMCC website, and help you obtain your MMCC ID card.

The MMCC charges a $50 fee for patients registering for a medical marijuana card. MMCC ID cards issued after January 1st, 2019 last for three years.

On your certification, your physician will identify how much dried flower and THC you need to treat your condition over a 30-day period. This is the maximum amount of medical marijuana you can purchase at a time.

The 30-day timeframe is a rolling period, beginning on the day you purchase your cannabis supply, not at the beginning of the calendar month.
